About the department 

 

Electronics and Communication Engineering Program was started in the year 2002-03.The focus of the department is to produce technicians with strong fundamentals in Electronics and Communication domain. The department offers 3 years (6 semesters) diploma course. The department has experienced faculty & well equipped laboratories. The Program has organized many guest lectures and workshops to exchange and disseminate the knowledge in the field of Electronics and Communication Engineering. The Department has adequate class rooms facilitated with Multimedia Projectors & four well equipped laboratories with UPS support.

To meet the needs of the industry and improve the quality of the education, the Curriculum is regularly revised and Outcome Based Education Curriculum has been implemented from the year 2015-16. The Curriculum includes subjects like Digital Electronics, Basic English, Analog Electronic Circuits, Analog Communication, ARM Controller, Advanced Communication, Industrial Automation and Embedded System etc.

Major Equipments and Software Tools available in various Laboratories: 8051 Micro controller kits with interfaces, CRO, CPLD / FPGA, Industrial Automation kits, Communication & Fiber Optics Kits, Signal Generators, LCR Meter, Software Tools such as Xilinx, Electronic Work Bench, Keil, Kicad, Computers with Internet facility and UPS backup.

Secure employment in Government & Non-Government Organizations. Secure jobs in educational institutions as Laboratory instructor and also in different IT industry. Many of our alumni are placed in various companies like BHEL, AIISH, Wipro, IBM, HCL, Rossell Techsys, Leepra Technologies, TVS Motors Company and Tech Mahindra across the globe.

PROGRAMME OUTCOMES (POs)

  1. Basic and discipline specific knowledge: Apply knowledge of basic mathematics, science and engineering fundamentals and engineering specialization to solve the engineering problems.
  2. Problem analysis: Identify and analyze well-defined problems using codified standard methods.
  3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for well-defined technical problems and assist with the design of systems components or processes to meet specified needs.
  4. Engineering tools, experimentation and testing: Apply modern engineering tools and appropriate technology technique to conduct standard tests and measurements.
  5. Engineering practices for society, sustainability and environment: Apply appropriate technology in context of society, sustainability, environment and ethical practices.
  6. Project management: Use engineering management principles individually as a team member or a leader to manage projects and effectively communicate about well-defined engineering activities.
  7. Life-long learning: Ability to analyze individual needs and engage in updating in the context of technological changes.

PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEOs)

  • To prepare students for competent career in industry to meet the needs of Companies or to become entrepreneur in the field of Electronics and Communication Engineering.
  • To enable students for life-long learning for sustainable development and introduce them to practice professional ethics.
  • To identify and encourage application of knowledge, innovation and in querying.
  • To provide opportunity for students to work in individual capacity and in teams under multidisciplinary domains.

PROGRAM SPECIFIC OUTCOMES (PSOs)

  1. To prepare Students to analyze, test and troubleshoot analog and digital circuits.
  2. To enable Students with the knowledge in the field of communications and networking.
  3. To realize the importance of industry challenges, management principles and continuing education in the field of electronics and communication.

Eligibility: Candidates who have passed SSLC (Karnataka) or its equivalent and minimum disability must be 40% in the case of Orthopedically Handicapped, 60 db for Hearing Impaired and 6/60 or 20/200 Snellen for Visually Impaired (partial) are eligible for admission.

Course Outcome:  The candidates who have completed this course can get placements in private / government organizations, industrial establishments, educational institution as Junior Engineers, Technical assistants, Testing Engineers, Instructors, Lab Assistants and Hardware & Networking Technicians. Students can also opt for higher education in B.E (E&C), B.Sc and Short Term Training Programmes on various topics concerning Electronics and communication. The diploma holders are successfully placed in leading industries, private / government establishments and also became successful Entrepreneurs

Facilities:​

The Department offers state of art facilities with excellent infrastructure which comprises of four well Equipped Laboratories, Smart Class rooms, Wi-Fi facility etc. accessible for differently abled. The Department is strengthened by well qualified faculty members whose main aim is to make students aware of the cutting edge technology with competence, commitment & team work. The teaching is reinforced through sign language/total communication and visual media presentations in the classrooms/labs. The department has recently acquired the latest computers for the computer laboratories necessary for training the students as per the revised curriculum. 

Computer Lab:  Computer lab have been setup with one to one facility comprising of latest, Multimedia Projectors and Laptops. The entire computer Labs are provided with Internet Facility and WIFI.

Software:  Campus is covered under Microsoft License Agreement.

Additional facilities for the Differently Abled:

  • The department has wheelchair accessible building with corridors, supporting rails.
  • The classrooms, laboratories and toilets are all wheelchair accessible.
  • The faculty and the supporting staff are all well versed in communicating with hearing impaired students.
  • Sign language interpreter services are provided for guest lectures and other seminars.
  • The needy orthopedically disabled students are provided:  printed notes for studying, assistance in the laboratories to conduct experiments, additional 20 minutes per hour for writing the examinations and Scribe facilities.

Careers after the Programme : Successful candidates will usually get placement as Software Engineers, Programmers, Hardware & Networking Technicians, Technical staff in BPOs/KPOs, Academic assistants in educational institutions, Assistance Engineer in varies Government agencies, Freelance service technicians and Individual Entrepreneurs. The students can also opt for higher education like Bachelor of Engineering (EC/TC/IT), B.Tech and B.Sc courses offered by Private / Government agencies. More than 70% of the successfully completed students have secured placement through campus interviews, off-campus selection and job fairs by leading IT industries.

A continuous interaction with industries is established through sponsored projects & industrial visits. Guest lectures are also organized by ISTE and IIPC, on a regular basis in emerging technologies from experts in industries and institutions. Soft skills programs, English Bridge Course, psychology, Online Training Program in English and Aptitudes are conducted to improve the overall personality. The Department has received funding for modernizing laboratories from AICTE. The department is also involved in academic revision meetings regularly.

The students are encouraged to participate in state level and National Level Technical Project competitions like ‘Do It Yourself Exhibition’ conducted by DTE, Karnataka.

Opportunities are given to students who are interested in participating in extracurricular activities like sports and cultural.
