1. Prepare the students for successful career in the field of architecture to meet the needs of building industry.

3. Provide confidence to work independently and as good team players and to be up to date with innovations.

 

About the Department 

The Department of Architecture has been established in the Year 1991-92.At Department of ARCHITECTURE, we aim to provide an enriched academic environment, imparting quality architectural education for the differently abled. Presently the intake of the department is 30 with a majority of hearing impaired students along with Orthopedically handicapped students. Right from the inception, the Department instils essential values to pursue and fulfil the aspirations of the society in creating better place to live and flourish.  
The department has qualified and dedicated staff who have sufficient experience to train differently abled students with the state-of-art infrastructure. The Department aims to provide opportunities to challenged students to develop their abilities in problem solving, creative thinking, and decision-making as a focus of their professional education and thereby to nurture a student-centred environment for personal development and professional excellence.
The Department has well established Laboratory with state of the art Equipment.  It has well equipped adequate number of smart classrooms, Drafting studios and Laboratories for teaching theory, drawing and laboratory courses. The students are trained such that they are employed in an Architectural firms as an Architectural Assistant or as a site engineer in construction firms

The Department has a good network of Alumni and has developed good interaction with Industry. The Department is closely associated with the Professional body ‘Indian Institute of Architects (IIA)’, Mysore Center that helps in understanding the present scenario of the construction industry. With the good rapport of the IIA, the Department is very active in providing opportunities and exposure to students in workshops, Guest lectures and Industry Visits.  After the course, the students will have the opportunities to pursue higher studies like B. Arch which is a 5 years course or Interior designing, animation courses which are 3 years courses etc.

The Department is successful in providing extensive education and experience to the students and has grown to the extent where in the students will never regret of joining this department.

Eligibility:  Candidates who have passed SSLC (Karnataka) or its equivalent and minimum disability must be 40% in the case of Orthopedically Handicapped and 60 db for Hearing Impaired are eligible for admission.

 

Program Outcomes(POs)

PO – 1:  Apply the knowledge of, Mathematics, Science and Engineering fundamentals and engineering             
               specialization to solve the Engineering problems. 
PO – 2:  Identify and Analyse well defined Engineering problems  using codified standard methods.
PO – 3:  Design solutions for well-defined technical problems and assist with the design of systems components or
               processes to meet specified needs. 
PO – 4:  Apply Modern Engineering tools and appropriate techniques to conduct standard tests and measurements.
PO – 5:  Apply appropriate technology in context of Society, Sustainability, Environment and Ethical practices.
PO – 6:  Use Engineering management principles individually, as a team member or a leader to manage projects
               and effectively communicate about well - defined engineering activities.
PO – 7:  Ability to analyse individual needs and engage in updating in the context of technological changes.

 

Program Specific Outcomes of the Programme (PSOs)

1. Impart practical knowledge in architectural planning and construction.
2. Engage as an architectural assistant and contribute towards the betterment of profession.
3. Provide value added skills and knowledge to make them employable.

The Department offers state of art facilities with excellent infrastructure which comprises of well Equipped Smart Class rooms, Studios, Laboratories, Wi-Fi facility etc,. all accessible for differently abled. The Department is strengthened by well qualified and dedicated faculty whose main aim is to make students aware of the cutting edge technology with competence, commitment & team work. The teaching is reinforced with sign language/total communication and visual media presentations in the classrooms/labs. The department has latest computers for the CAD laboratory necessary for training the students.

CAD Lab: The Cad Lab has been established and upgraded under MODROB scheme with one to one computer facility with latest Desktop Computers ( HCL LX Infiniti pro BL1280, 500GB HDD,2GB DDR- II, 48CM HCL LCD Monitor, Key board, Optical Mouse with Windows 10), Printer and Multimedia Projectors. All the computers are provided with Internet Facility 24/7with 15 KVA UPS back up. Surveillance cameras are installed in all the labs. 


Software:Campus is covered under Microsoft Campus License Agreement. 
System Software : Windows 10, Ubuntu, Fedora
Application software: Auto CAD 2018 Education Multi  - seat stand –alone single user, Auto CAD REVIT Architecture suite 2012 Education New SLM, Visual Studio,  MS Office.
Model making workshop : Cutting tables, Glass Tracing table, Display boards.
Survey Lab: Total station, Dumpy level, Theodolite and Compass

Additional facilities for the Differently Abled

The department has wheelchair accessible building with corridors and supporting railings.
The classrooms, Studios, laboratories and toilets(with Grab Bars) are all wheelchair accessible.
The faculty and the supporting staff are all well versed in communicating with hearing impaired students.
Sign language interpreter services are provided for guest lectures and other seminars.
Psychology counselling is provided for the students who are in need.
The needy orthopedically disabled students are provided with assistance in the laboratories to conduct experiments.
Printed notes for reference , Additional 20 minutes per hour and Scribe facilities are provided during the examinations.

Curriculum Contents 

The Department is regularly revising the syllabus since 1999 – 2000 to suit the needs of the Architecture and Construction Industry demand. The present curriculum  is revised in the year 2015-16. New Curriculum C21 is implemented from the Academic Year 2021-22.

Department Architecture's activities
Activities of the Department 
 
In addition to Academic activities, the Department regularly organizes Co-curricular and Extra Cu-curricular activities.  Guest lectures/workshops are organized through ISTE and IIPC on a regular basis in emerging technologies from experts in industry and institutions. Soft skill programs, English Bridge Course, psychology counselling, Online Training Program in English and Aptitudes are conducted to improve the overall personality. The Department is actively involved in;
Arranging Short Term Training Programmes for teaching staff to upgrade their Knowledge.
Organizing Educational and Construction/ Field visits to students.
Inviting Experts from Architecture, Academic and Construction Industry to give special lectures in order to cater to the present day needs of the Industry. 
Arranging Personality Development Workshops for Students.
Organizing Career Guidance Programme for Final Year Students in association with M/s Cheshire Livelihood Resource Centre and M/s Enable India, Bengaluru.
Organizing Training Program on Aptitude for Students.
Arranging Counselling for Students by Psychologist.
Encourage students to participate in Cultural and Sports events. 
Provide opportunities to students to participate in NSS and Red Cross activities.
